HUNDREDS OF REGISTERED NURSES FROM CALIFORNIA ARE ON STRIKE ... TO PROTEST WHAT THEY CALL UNFAIR WORKING CONDITIONS.
SOME 15-HUNDRED NURSES FROM LONG BEACH MEMORIAL MEDICAL CENTER AND THE AFFILIATED MILLER CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL LONG BEACH HAVE SIGNED UP FOR THE 24-HOUR STRIKE.
BY EIGHT THIS MORNING (thursday) -- HUNDREDS COULD BE SEEN OUTSIDE THE HOSPITAL -- HOLDING SIGNS AND VOICING THEIR CONCERNS.
THE NURSES HAVE BEEN WITHOUT A CONTRACT SINCE SEPTEMBER.
THEY SAY THE NURSE-TO-PATIENT STAFFING RATIOS ARE UNSAFE ...
AND THAT INCREASES IN THEIR HEALTH CARE PREMIUMS ARE UNFAIR.
THE HOSPITAL SAYS TODAY'S STRIKE WILL *NOT* IMPACT PATIENTS ...
AND THAT THEY HAVE HIRED REPLACEMENT NURSES.
