SUPER BOWL SUNDAY IS ALMOST HERE.
AND RESEARCH HAS SHOWN A FAN'S EMOTIONAL STRESS CAN BE SO INTENSE IT MAY TRIGGER HEART ATTACKS.
THE HEAD OF MONTEFIORE HOSPITAL'S STRESS AND ANXIETY CLINIC DOCTOR SIMON REGO'S HAS SOME ADVICE TO HELP ENJOY THE BIG GAME.
HE SAYS REMEMBER TO ENJOY THE COMPETITION... NOT MAKE YOURSELF SICK OVER IT.

REGO says: the Super Bowl has become a defacto holiday in the U.S. it's got one hundred and ten million people estimated that's going to watch it and so much gets wrapped into it with the office pools, and with the friendly or not so friendly competition, fantasy sports leagues, recreational activities. I think there's an intensity that comes with that level of involvement in the game and the process around the game now."

REGO says: "The closer you get to actually feeling like you're in the game you can start to feel the effects of being overly stressed. Such as heart racing and shortness of breath. Sometimes peoples blood rushes to the point where they actually start to get dizzy and shaky. From the effects of it and along with it interpersonally they can begin to get a bit more irritable. A little more vocal with the people who aren't necessarily on their side and before you know it, it could lead to altercations between people. Insults thrown back and forth. So you see these symptoms start to get out of hands, almost like someone's a threat to their lives or something. "

IT'S ESTIMATED MORE THAN NINETY MILLION PEOPLE TUNED IN TO WATCH THE SUPER BOWL LAST YEAR.
THIS YEARS NUMBERS ARE EXPECTED TO SURPASS THAT.
